Scouting in New Communities

Although Sri Lankan Scout groups are mainly school based, Sri Lanka Scout Association is currently working on community-based scout groups ( currently contributes 5%) as a mechanism of achieving the membership growth targets. Therefore, according to the annual census of our NSO we have recognised 10 Scout Districts and following actions will be taken to strengthen their capacity to reach the membership growth in Kids Scouting (Pre-Cub) and Scout Sections.
Project were executed in various stages by conducting different activities. Activity 01 Conducting advocacy & introductory programs to the district leadership Activity 02 Conducting model camps in each district to increase public awareness & building image of Scouting. Activity 03 Commencement of new Scout Groups in selected 10 districts which includes both community-based and school-based scout groups especially in Kids Scouts (pre-cub) and Scout Sections.
14500 young people and 500 adults in Scouting were benefited through this projects as they were newly recruited in scouting (as a result of the project) With the successful implementation & results of the Project, Sri Lanka Scout Association had a satisfactory membership growth in all 10 districts which were known to have less in membership growth.
Identifying the districts which were poor in membership growth and work on a strategy to improve the growth was the success of the project. Moreover, project identified training new adults in Scouting is the main strategy to develop scouting and membership growth.
