Scouting for Children with disabilities

Bhutan Scouts Association has very few members from the disability community. Very few students with special needs education join as members for the last 20 years. Thats due to the smaller number of trained adult leaders. To tackle this, Bhutan Scouts organized a five-day special course for the teachers from the special needs' education schools in Bhutan. 30 teachers participated in the five-day capacity building workshop
The Basic Unit Leaders training course- a capacity building workshop was conducted for 30 teachers from Special Needs Schools, Ability Bhutan Society & Disability Association of Bhutan. The training was conducted at Paro, the National Scouts Centre.
As the 30 Teachers in the schools does not have Scout members, this workshop would enable and help them to recruit children with disability as scouts. The impact would be massive as many would join as members which further make Scouting in Bhutan diverse & inclusive.
Scouting in Bhutan has generated a lot of enthusiasm in the country. A training project for the teachers from special needs education schools has given me the opportunity to take the program in schools who have children with disability. This would have a major impact on our program as it would at least make it diverse & inclusive. Furthermore, it has given me a different perspective on the nature and delivery of the programs in schools with children who are not like the ones we are used to.
