Scout Thrift Store
Aiming: This project aims to collect second hand clothes and sell them for a very low price, to help poor people of the community around the scouts group.
Structure of the project: The project can be divided in three steps:
1) Collecting second hand clothes and announcement: Scouts walk around the scouts group neighborhood asking for donations from the neighbors and telling about the project. The project must also be announced in the poor community. The scouts’ relatives can donate clothes, too.
2) Sorting: The scouts choose and arrange the apparel according to type, quality and size.
3) Thrift Shop: On the appointed day and place, the clothes will be sold for a low price, between U$ 0,50 to U$ 2,00.
(Obs.: It is important to charge for the clothes so that donations become more worthful. But the way the clothes are delivered to the poor people can be adapted.)
This project was developed during last June, one month before the winter in Brazil. That's why others items were included like blankets, matresses and shoes. This period of the year is the hardest for the people living in poverty, so it was decided to take action in this period of the year.
More than five thousands of garments were collected, which helped more than a hundred people.
In the end, the clothes that were not sold, were donated to a charity.
Enjoy it. It is a good way to help people in need and improve social conscience among our young scouts.
