SciScouts 2017: Environment

SciScouts 2017 was delivered at Camp Cottermouth on 19 - 20 August during Australia's National Science Week. Over 1000 Scouts and Guides participated in some awesome science activities aligning with the themes of the World Scout Environment Badge: clean water, natural habitats, minimising harmful substances, sustainability and natural hazards. Of the twenty activity bases operated over the weekend, five were developed and run by Scouting members. Of these, four Venturers prepared and lead the activities - from wind power to waste and a series of climate change related activities - as part of their Queens Scout Environment Award and their Part B project for the World Scout Environment Badge. Participants cam from Joey, Cub, Scout and Venturer sections, with a number of Rovers, Leaders, Adult Helpers and the occasional Commissioner helping out in all manner of different roles to make the event run seamlessly for the youth members. Scouting + Science + Environment = FUN and a great opportunity for those involved in organising and delivering the event to do so as a Messengers of Peace project by bringing together the large number of Scouting and Guiding members for this purpose. Service hours an estimate of time spent in planning, preparations and delivery. Review session yet to be held.
