Schooled on Littering Less

As the 1st Polokwane Scout Group, we decided to pick-up litter in the School grounds where we have our Scout Hall. We wanted to meet the requirements of the National Challenge, but also create awareness about litter and the choices we make to leave it laying around or throwing it away. We wanted to clean up around our hall as well.
Capricorn High School sports fields and residents areas. As a group, we each carried a black back and collected any rubbish we saw laying around.
The people who benefitted from this are all the school learners and residents at the School. Around 800 people. People saw us collecting the rubbish and through our interactions with them, they were made aware of the amount of litter around the school, the actions they can take to help clean up and prevent further littering.
We learnt that although the area itself looks relatively clean, there is a lot of hidden rubbish thrown around. We could make a more successful event by advertising earlier and providing better equipment like gloves and sturdier rubbish bags
