Save Our Shores - Educational Tour to Mangrove Reserve Forest: Kuala Gula, Tanjung Piandang, Kuala Muda & Sungai Pinang

Kuala Gula is a a little fishing village tucked away in the north-western corner of Perak, which surrounded by mangrove forest. Tanjung Piandang is a small fishing village located on the coast of Kerian district, northwest Perak, in Peninsular Malaysia, Malaysia. In Mandarin, it is known as “角头" which means "at the corner". It is surrounded by Mangrove Forest. The main economy activities at here would be fishing. Kuala Muda is a small fishing village located at the mouth of Sungai Muda. It consist of two part and separate by Sungai Muda, where on South is Kuala Muda, Pulau Pinang and at North is Kuala Muda, Kedah. Both Kuala Muda are badly hit by Tsunami on 26 December 2004. Sungai Pinang is located at Balik Pulau, Penang. Since year 2000, government had replanting and taking care of mangrove forest along the Balik Pulau coastline. When year 2004 Tsunami disaster, these barrier had functioning well to stop the impact of tsunami wave. We have visited this 4 places and carried out a survey about the Important of Mangrove Forest towards villagers and how local people going to conserving Mangrove Forest. In conclusion of this two days education tour, we had identify the important of mangrove forest practically and to discover the better way of conducting the SW Voluntary Service effectively. We also observe the impact to the shores where with or without the barrier of mangrove forest.
