Sacred Stones, United Hearts

The inspiration for this project stemmed from a deep reverence for Bhutanese spiritual heritage and a shared desire to strengthen community unity through meaningful action. In Samtse, where tradition and modern development often intersect, the construction of a Chorten offered a sacred opportunity to preserve cultural identity while fostering collective purpose.

The Chorten construction was initiated by the Samtse District Administration with formal approval from the Department of Culture under the MoHA. In Phase I, Dzongkhag Engineering and Human Settlement Sector had extensive consultation and active community engagement for planning and in the second phase construction and ritual integration were done, which included volunteer mobilization, a spiritual groundbreaking ceremony.

Volunteering in the construction of a Chorten is not just physical labor—it’s a deeply enriching experience that blends spirituality, culture, and community service. The few meaningful insights and learnings are: 1. Spiritual and Cultural Understanding 2. Merit and mindfulness 3. Community Engagement and Unity 4. Helping hands philosophy
