Roots of Change: Scouts for a Greener Tomorrow

The project was inspired by a shared vision of environmental responsibility and the urgent need to combat climate change. VANAM Voluntary Organization aimed to create a social forest that benefits both nature and the local community. Motivated by this noble cause, the Scouts and Guides of Sairam Matric Hr Sec School joined the mission, driven by their commitment to service, sustainability, and the belief that every sapling planted is a step toward a greener future.

The project was executed through a well-coordinated effort led by VANAM Voluntary Organization. A two-acre area was prepared and fenced at Akkur Government Higher Secondary School. 500 saplings of 15 plant varieties were planted with the help of Scouts and Guides from Sairam Matric Hr Sec School, local students, and volunteers. Tasks were divided among teams for digging, planting, and watering, supported by a drip irrigation system to ensure long-term sustainability.

The project taught us the importance of environmental stewardship, teamwork, and community engagement. We learned how collective action can create lasting impact and how youth can lead meaningful change. The experience deepened our understanding of sustainable practices like drip irrigation and biodiversity. Most importantly, it instilled a sense of pride and responsibility in nurturing nature for future generations.
