Rescue operation activities in Noakhali-2024
In August 2024, the devastating floods in Bangladesh affected millions of people, leaving countless families homeless and struggling for food, clean water and basic necessities. In the Kabir Hat area of Noakhali alone, more than 3,000 flood-affected people faced severe hardship. As Rover Scouts, it is our duty to stand by their side in their time of need. Through this project, my Scout team and I started the activities with the aim of providing hope and support to the victims.
To implement the flood relief project in Noakhali region, 20 Rover Scouts of Kabir Hat Government College Rover Scout Group first assessed the affected areas. When we reached a 10 km wide area where a homeless pregnant woman and child were stranded, we went out to rescue them along with my Rover Scouts and fire service personnel. After crossing a long 10 km road, we were able to rescue them. Then, we brought them to Kabir Hat Government College shelter by boat.
This project has taught us the power of teamwork, crisis management, and community resilience. We have learned how to quickly assess needs, efficiently distribute aid, and raise health awareness to prevent disease. Most importantly, it has reinforced the true spirit of "serving before self," showing that even small efforts can bring hope and relief to those in need.
