Each year, the Victorian Branch Environment Team takes a group of scouts to the Lurg area, near Benalla in Victoria, Australia. We spend a day planting trees for the Regent Honeyeater Projects, and another day covering aspects of the World Scout Environment Badge. The Regent Honeyeater is a bird that is endemic to Australia, and critically endangered. It's main threat is habitat loss, so the Regent Honeyeater Project aims to restore its Eucalyptus habitat through landscape level linkages between remanent forest. This year we planted over 1700 trees and shrubs, which we hope will help this bird, as well as other animals that rely on similar habitat, to persist.
