60th Jamboree-On-The-Air (JOTA) and 21st Jamboree-On-The-Internet (JOTI)
JOTA and JOTI is the largest Scouting event in the world with over 1 million Scouts participatin across 150 + countries It is an official international event of the World Organization of the Scout Movement (WOSM). In JOTA Cubs, Bulbuls, Scouts, Guides, Rovers, Rangers, Cubmasters, Scoutmasters, Rover Scout Leaders and other officials all over the world communicate each other by means of Amateur Radio (HAM Radio) and in JOTI the communication is by Internet. One needs a valid license to operate a HAM Radio. But during JOTA, Scouts and Guides can communicate through HAM Radio. It is a real jamboree by means of Amateur Radio (HAM Radio) during which Scouting/Guiding experiences are exchanged and ideas are shared, thus contributing to the World Brotherhood of Scouting.
JOTA and JOTI offers an excellent opportunity to meet Scouts and Guides from many other countries. It is a chance to exchange ideas, learn about other cultures and habits and make new friends. JOTA makes Scouts and Guides feel that they belong to a world wide movement.
JOTA and JOTI was held at Chevayur A.U.P. School, Chevayur on 22.10.2017. JOTA –JOTI was inaugurated by Smt.Vigneshwari.V I.A.S., Sub Collector and Sub Divisional Magistrate, Kozhikode. Calicut Hams were partners in JOTA. This year the theme was “Celebrating 60 years connecting Scouts”
JOTA-JOTI was held under the leadership of VU3 OJJ Sri.ASHOK SAMUEL.K, District JOTA-JOTI Co-ordinator, Kerala State Bharat Scouts and Guides, Kozhikode, and VU3 MTY Sri.Asharaf Arabithazhath, VU2 OJ Dr.Abraham Jacob, VU2 ATB Sri.Sunil Koodathinkal, VU2 PKH Sri.Prakash, VU2 PH Sri.Prajeesh.P.K. of Calicut Hams. A special call sign AT1 CLT was allotted by the Govt. of India for JOTA.
A JOTA Exhibition and JOTA Library wasset up. “J Codes” was used to make a very basic communication possible between Scouts that have no language in common. Easy Morse Code learning methods, Morse buzzers have been made available to learn the Morse Code. Advanced Discovery Projects and JamPuz (Jamboree Puzzle) game was also organized. JamPuz is an exciting game of collecting as many as JID (Jamboree ID) codes from the contacted JOTA-JOTI Stations and recording it.
JOTI (Jamboree On The Internet) is part of JOTA-JOTI, an international jamboree taking place around the world simultaneously. It is organised by WOSM, the World Organization of the Scout Movement. Scouts from all over the world communicate over the Air (amateur radio) and the Internet using any technology locally available. There are loads of different ways to communicate, including text-based chat, voice chat, video chat, emails, blogs, and social media networks. JOTA-JOTI allows you to build friendships around the world and to find out more about their culture and scouting life.
