Polybusters

Plastic pollution is a man-made issue, and we must all have a role in resolving it.The improper consumption and disposal of single-use plastic are causing disastrous issues to all living species including plants & animals and ultimately human beings. This inspired us to make a change and to plan a project which reduces the plastic discarded into the environment by finding methods to reuse them in a very effective way and there by encouraging and creating awareness among the community.
Our project was implemented in our school,Sussex College Kandy under the guidance and support of our principal, scout mistress, parents and our scout troop. We planned to do a wall painting, about marine pollution, in one of our school building alongside the main road and also plastic bottle creations. We scouts got together at school and in accordance with the current health guidelines,we created plastic bottle creations, including a plastic bottle gateway and more than 50 bottle planters.
The area we chose for the project will be facing the road as we intend to focus not only on inspiring the students and staff of the school but also make aware the parents and passerby.Through our wall paintings we expect to give a glimpse of threats our ocean face and inspire others to take action. With our plastic creations we aim to give people a reflection of the amount of plastic waste they generate and take responsibility for the consequence of their consumption patterns.
We learnt that we consume so much plastic than we think we do.As we never went out of plastic bottles throughout our whole project,it made us realise the gravity of the issues caused by the improper consumption and disposal of plastic waste and how much it can harm the environment we live in,creating an unsustainable state of the plant in the future.
