PLASTIC POLLUTION: A THREAT TO THE ENVIRONMENT

PLASTIC POLLUTION: A THREAT TO THE ENVIRONMENT

Plastic Materials are a major problem in today’s generation. Everywhere you see has plastic on it including your appliances in your home, your school supplies, and even the plates and cups that you use for eating. Plastics are a wide range of synthetic or semi-synthetic organic compounds that are malleable and so can be molded into solid objects. Plastics are made from natural, organic materials such as cellulose, coal, natural gas, salt, and crude oil. Unlike nature made materials, plastics are non-biodegradable. It remains in our environment for hundreds of years that causes to pollute our lands, waters and the very air we breathe. Plastics has been a big part of our daily lives. It has become an essential in our homes, work and the advancement or our society. Still, plastic have becoming a threat in our mother nature including mankind, wild life, and mostly, marine life. It is spreading like a disease that has no cure. Humans should realize the impacts of plastic pollution so that all of us can avoid and prevent the consequences of our actions. Plastic pollutes our waters. Every year, tones of plastic have been thrown and dumped in the oceans. As plastic dumps grew bigger each year, marine life is more affected. Aquatic animals mistaken plastic litters for food. They eat it and because it cannot be digested, animals suffer from hunger and die eventually. Plastic pollutes our lands. Plastic litters that have been dumped in land damages the fertility of the soil, which causes to become more difficult to plant. Plastic pollutes our air. The chemicals that are used to manufacture plastics were released into the air causing air toxicity, and air pollution. We see, Plastic pollution is destroying every living thing on earth. We must try to prevent it from invading our world. To prevent plastics we must try alternatives like cloth bags, paper bags instead of single- use plastics. If we have plastics in our homes, we can reuse it. We must avoid drinking in water bottles, instead we use Tumblers as an alternative. It may be complicated but if we all realize and start doing something about this we may be able to save our mother earth and make it a world a better place to live in. #EarthTribe #EarthTribePH #TideTurnersPlasticChallenge #TideTurnersPlasticChallengePH #Scouts4SDGs #SDG 6 #SDG13 #SDG14 #SDG15 #Scouts #BetterWorld #PreserveTheLegacy #ScoutingSaSilangan #WarriorScouts #UEGSPChapter #ForHerWorld
