Planting the Seeds of Responsible Consumption

We were inspired by the need to promote responsible consumption, food sustainability, and climate resilience in urban communities. By equipping Scouts with practical gardening skills, we aimed to empower youth to grow their own food, reduce waste, and make more sustainable choices that contribute to healthier lifestyles and support the SDGs.
We organized a hands-on training session where Scouts and Scout Leaders learned the essentials of vegetable gardening, including soil preparation, seed planting, and understanding the effects of sunlight, water, and soil type on plant growth. With agricultural inputs provided by the DA-BPI, participants were able to immediately apply their knowledge by starting their own urban garden plots, promoting local food production and sustainable practices.
We learned that hands-on, community-based activities like urban gardening can make a big impact when youth are empowered with practical skills. The Scouts showed resilience despite challenges like rain, and the experience highlighted the importance of adaptability, teamwork, and proper documentation in sustaining meaningful, goal-driven projects. #Scouts #ScoutsforSDG #GreenRising
