Planting Kumbuk Tree
Forests are at the heart of the transition to low-carbon economies, not only because of their double role as sink and source of emissions but also through the wider use of wood products to displace more fossil fuel intense products
Trees lock carbon in their leaves, branches, and soils, while deforestation and forest degradation account for up to 12 percent of worldwide gas emissions.
Therefore, I was really inserted to planting trees alining to the SDG 15, Life on land
My home is adjoining to a faddy land and I selected our land boundary to plant some trees. My father suggested planting Kumbuk Tree (Terminalia arjuna) as those trees are protecting moisture of the soil too.
My Father brought me 5 plants of Kumbuk. Self and brother used to dig a few holes in the land. Then we made them more stable to plant a tree. Then we panted the tree and according to my father's instruction, we put some water and cover them with some supportive poles.
Even I’m not in a position to explain exactly non of people going to benefit from this, I'm sure that these 5 plants will protect the water resource around my home and purify the air and improve the air quality surrounding my home. Not only humans but also other animals will be benefited from this in several ways.
Kumbuk also believes to be store more oxygen than other trees.
I believe that many lives on earth will be benefited from this project for many years.
I learned the importance of trees and how they contribute to maintaining the air quality in our atmosphere. Further, I learn that planting tree is one of the best solutions for Land Slide Mitigation.
Further, I found that this exercise can be linked with SDG 13 climate action tool because it reduces the carbon footprint and produces more oxygen.
As a concussion, we as Scouts must practice our lifestyle aligning to SDGs as much as we can.
