Plantations for environmental conservation.

June 2 is the special day for all the Bhutanese as it is observed as the Social Forestry Day coinciding with the Coronation Day of our 4th King, Jigme Singye Wangchuck. The schools and institutes across the country mark this day by planting various types of saplings. It is to show reverence and pay tribute to our great 4th king for his selfless and enormous contributions made to the country, especially, the environmental conservation, one of the four pillars of GNH.
All the teachers and students from Class III- VI were divided into four smaller groups and planted various saplings in and around the school campus. Group 1: Planted 30 nos of. Bananas. Group 2: Planted 100 nos. of broom grass (Thysanolaena) Group 3: Involved in the plantation of 10 nos. of bamboos. Group 4: Planted 20 nos. of Mango and avocado fruit trees.
We have planted bamboos and broom grass in a place where we found prone or vulnerable to the landslide. This would definitely help to protect from soil erosion and landslides. Bananas and fruits trees were planted thinking that the our school doesn't have to purchase fruits for our students in the near future. The fruits would serve as the dietary supplement. If there is surplus, we would sell to the local people and generate budget for the development of school.
We could complete our project as planned and all the credit goes to the scouters and scout members for their active involvement. Through this project, we could at least make our school look greener than we found it.
