Patterson's Curse Invasion

Our local canal is being rehabilitated with increases tree planting. One of the challenges with restoring the canal is invasive species, particularly the Patterson's curse weed. This plant has no natural enemies and once it seeds spreads rapidly.
We joined another scout group for a combined pack meet. We started off explaining what invasive species are and playing the what the risk game. after which we broke into smaller groups and went out along the canal to pull out (from the roots) as many of these weeds as possible in an hour.
The amount of Patterson's curse along the smaller portion of the canal that we covered was almost overwhelming! We pulled out so many plant yet felt like we had hardly made a dent. The cubs however had a huge sense of achievement for the work they did, paired with a deep and meaningful understanding of the impact of invasive species and how they can spread.
