Nature’s Noticeboard

I chose this as my Eagle Service Project because I wanted to create something useful and lasting for Jug Bay Wetlands Sanctuary, a place I care about and visit often. By building a kiosk, I can help visitors connect more with the park’s trails and wildlife while also supporting sustainability by reducing the need for printed materials. This project allows me to combine my interest in nature, design, and hands-on work, all while giving back to my community.

To execute my project, I recruited volunteers from my Scout troop, as well as friends and family, to help with building and installing the kiosk. I coordinated with the Facilities Manager at Jug Bay, who provided valuable insight on the construction and safety for the surrounding wildlife. I used treated lumber, shingles, weather-resistant hardware, and plexiglass, to ensure the kiosk would be durable and functional in outdoor conditions.

Throughout this project, I learned the importance of planning ahead and staying organized, especially when coordinating volunteers and gathering materials. I also realized how valuable teamwork and clear communication are when working on a large project with multiple people. Most importantly, I gained confidence in my ability to lead others and saw how meaningful community service can make a lasting impact.
