My Paradoxical Self (Ma Nowana Mama) - Short Film
Children these days are in a constant pressure from their parents and teachers due to the competitive nature of the education field. The unexpected COVID-19 pandemic only fueled this pressure as it deprived us of the most basic social interaction. This short film was make to spread awareness on the mental and physical health of children and the challenges they face.
We were notified of the competition Ginimalayen Wedikawata 2020 on the 19th of November 2020. From that day we started planning our drama, as the days went by we shot the film take by take. In the last few days we completed editing the film and submitted it to the organizers. It was streamed live on Facebook on the 12th of December 2020 where it got around 2.2k views. We earned the runners-up award for our short film.
This project helped to spread awareness on the problems faces by teenagers in today's world who are under a lot of stress academically and socially due to factors such as social media and competitive exams. Although a little challenge can be beneficial, as it is, it can cause more harm than good. It is important that the society recognizes teenagers as more than a study-machine and allow them to explore their childhood freely. We were able to convey this message to well over a 2200 people.
It was a fun project to work on during the pandemic. We learnt how to coordinate a project remotely and navigate the tools at out disposal.
