Muzienberg Beach Clean-up

Cape Town has amazing beaches, flora, and fauna. We are very gifted to experience it in our daily lives and with that comes the responsibility to take care of our environment to preserve it for all future generations.
We met at Muizenberg beach on a Sunday and spread out in groups over different areas collecting trash damaging the environment. All the smaller trash collections were compiled into bigger bags that were transported away from the area via parent's cars.
Muizenberg is extremely popular and will be used by hundreds of thousands of locals and tourists throughout the year.
1. We learnt that in sandy areas trash starts to get buried quickly so regular clean-ups are needed. 2. Plastic pieces break up into smaller and smaller pieces that become difficult to pick up so a sifting device can help get all the little pieces. 3. Some trash is sharp and damages the trash bags (such as glass). This can be fixed by using boxes to hold that trash until it can be transported to the recycling plant.
