Moroccan Scouts' Humanitarian Aid to Earthquake
On September 08, 2023, a powerful earthquake with a magnitude of 6.9 struck Morocco's Marrakesh–Safi region., causing extensive damage to infrastructure, homes, and resulting in the loss of numerous lives. The earthquake left thousands of people in dire need of humanitarian assistance, including shelter, food, medical care, and emotional support. In response to this catastrophe, the Moroccan Scouts mobilized their resources and volunteers to provide aid to the affected areas.
The Moroccan Scouts actively engaged with the affected communities to assess their needs. The scouts distributed emergency food and clean water so that the affected villages had access to basic sustenance. They set up emergency tent camps, distributed tents and blankets to affected families, ensuring that they had a safe place to sleep. Recognizing the trauma experienced by survivors, the scouts also provided psychological support to help kids cope with the emotional aftermath of the earthquake.
The humanitarian aid provided by the Moroccan Scouts had a significant impact on the affected communities: They provided shelter to over 5,000 displaced individuals. Emergency food and water assistance reached more than 10,000 people. Medical teams treated hundreds of injured individuals. Emotional support services helped survivors cope with the trauma.
The Moroccan Scouts' response to the earthquake catastrophe showcased as always their dedication to humanitarian values and their ability to provide immediate relief in times of crisis as they have shown before in corona time in 2020, Al Hoceïma earthquake in 2004 and Agadir earthquake in 1960. Their coordinated efforts, efficient resource mobilization, and community engagement played a crucial role in alleviating the suffering of the affected population.
