Monthly Kayak Clean up with Waterways Watch Society

Monthly Kayak Clean-up with Waterways Watch Society This project is about a monthly kayak clean-up around the Kallang Basin, Singapore with the Waterways Watch Society. I started on this project because I felt interested in helping to keep the Singapore waters clean, especially so in the city area, where the Kallang Basin and Marina Reservoir is located. I started on this project as I was completing my World Scout Environment Project, also on keeping water clean and free of pollution. On the last Saturday of the month, together with scouts from my unit, I join the Waterways Watch Society for a two-three hour kayak clean up in the Kallang Basin. Sometimes, we clean the waters of Kallang river, Geylang river, Rochor canal and Marina Reservoir. Through this service project, I learnt more about why we should keep our waterways clean. I understood how our litter thrown on the ground can eventually end up in the water and kill marine animals. I realised the importance of ensuring that we dispose our rubbish properly. After all, it is better to tackle the root of the problem than to clean up afterwards. I hope that I will be able to continue on such service projects in the near future.
