Mission JalShakti: Somangalam Lake Cleanup

The Somangalam Lake Cleanup Drive was inspired by the urgent need to restore our natural water bodies and foster environmental responsibility among youth. Seeing the lake's deteriorating condition, we felt a strong call to action—motivated by the belief that community-driven efforts can revive ecosystems and create a lasting impact for future generations through sustainability and service.

We began with a site assessment and planned the cleanup in collaboration with the Tamil Nadu State Wetland Authority, Unnat Bharat Abhiyan, Sairam District Scouts, and Scouts for SDGs. With support from Somangalam Village Panchayat and Spreco Recycling Pvt. Ltd., volunteers were equipped with tools and safety gear to execute waste collection, segregation, and awareness—ensuring impactful community action.

This project taught us the power of community collaboration and the impact of small, consistent efforts. We learned effective planning, teamwork, and the importance of environmental stewardship. Engaging with local bodies and executing sustainable practices deepened our understanding of real-world challenges. Most importantly, we realized that youth-led initiatives can drive meaningful change when rooted in purpose and responsibility.
