MESSENGERS OF PEACE- COMMUNITY OUTREACH (STATION 2)
The MESSENGERS OF PEACE community outreach continued in the highlands of Nakoroboya. This time I had a chance to explore the beautiful settlement; Wailailai, a small native village which is almost 4 -5 kilometers from the main road. With the help of some students and youth I reached the venue on time with some presentation stuff, our baggage for a night’s camp at the settlement and our scouting/mop materials.
After the traditional ceremony, my small squad started the presentation. The community members were keen to know what scouting and MOP was all about. Firstly, a brief overview of what scouting is all about being done followed by messenger of peace activities. The members actively participated in the activities and it was fascinating to see how everyone were so eager to learn.
Things ended on a high note and more discussion was done during the talanoa session, dinner time and bedtime. What a wonderful scouting night with kids and community members around! It was more like a scouting camp that night. Early next morning we had to walk through a track on a horse back for about 3 kilometers and then walk up to the main road to catch the first bus to school. Such a great experience I had with the community members. It is very important to spread the, message of peace with some scouting skills to the remote areas like Nakoroboya. This outreach programme will continue till I cover the whole Nakoroboya area.
