MESSENGERS OF PEACE BUILD-UP IN FIJI

Messengers of Peace program was well initiated by Fiji Scouts in 2012 and more people engaged when it was rejuvenated after 4 years. However, the program started to freeze due to many reasons which includes covid-19, leader interest and location of leaders in rural areas. As a MOP coordinator the decreasing number of community projects, interest of some leaders and the need for inclusion motivated me to start implementing MOP at community level.
This project was implemented in all scouting district of Fiji. The project initiated with all local MOP coordinators meet. This meet was an online one. After all planning and identification of strategies district level MOP training was scheduled. Due to factors such as time, covid restrictions and location of venues, MOP trained local coordinators were given the task to train more scout leaders and get all districts active.
All scouts, community members and elderly people benefitted the most from this build-up of Messengers of Peace program. Changes were seen in some rural areas when more leaders were trained. These trained leaders started community projects such as awareness on covid-19, Health Promoting Schools, Clean drinking water and diversity and inclusion.
As a trainer and coordinator, I learnt many things which includes project management, partnering with other stakeholders and presenting a report especially to government agencies. Involvement of religious leaders, financial manuals and activity guides for all trainers would have helped facilitate the program better.
