Meerkats: Little People on Litter

Seeing all the litter in a park where our local parkruns happen on a Saturday morning made my heart very sore. How can people be so disrespectful to the environment?? I decided to gather my Meerkats early on a Saturday morning and ensure the trail and park was clear of litter and debris for the runners to have a clear area to enjoy their run and time outdoors. The participants of the run were so grateful to us for taking time out of our weekend to clean up the park and make it beautiful again
The park is in a suburb of Edenvale, Johannesburg, SA. Gathering the Meerkats and parents to volunteer their time to clean up the litter. We worked in a group and scoured the park from start to finish and picked up all the litter we saw.
The whole community benefited from this project because it is a municipal park and open to the public. It took a group of 5 and 6 year olds to clean up the park of litter and make it not such an eyesore!
We learned that "many hands make light work" and giving back to the community made us feel happy. When out and about having a picnic or outing, the only thing that should be left behind is one's smile. And we all left our smiles behind that day!
