Meerkats and Cubs clean up Florida Lake

The lake is a popular venue for fishermen and the public. when we saw how polluted the shoreline had become, we knew we needed to take action.

Florida lake is in front of the Gilwell Scoutng Centre in Florida, Roodepoort. We planned the clean up to coincide with our annual BP day celebrations. Each group received a refuse bag and gloves; the meerkats and cubs along with their scouters walked along the shoreline and collected litter.

Anyone who accesses the shore area of Florida Lake will benefit from the litter free area. Estimate at least 200 people will benefit

The meerkats and cubs realized how much litter can accumulate in one area, and were surprised that people did not use the dustbins provided, instead throwing their litter on the ground. Regular clean ups would help to keep the area.
