Marking World Environment Day

In Bhutan, The World Environment Day is celebrated on 4th June, coinciding with the Birth Anniversary of the Queen of Bhutan. I took the inspiration from Her Majesty who is the Royal patron of the environment working towards supporting Bhutan's conversation legacy with her role as the UNEP Ozone Ambassador.
This one day cleaning campaign was implemented near the high way roads and a place that served as a scenic spot for visitors. More than 200 scouts were divided into three groups mainly to pick up wastes using segregation methods. Divided the groups. he teams kicked off the campaign in two different locations. The volunteers not only picked up wastes, but also created awareness and educated people on waste management. The cleaning campaign carried out today collected more than 16 tons of waste.
The cleaning campaign helped to create awareness about managing the ever-increasing waste problems. The campaign was not time bound which has helped the scouts to clean up, fix up, and conserve environment.
It is essential to know that many places in Bhutan is now witnessing a major tourist spot turning into a dumping ground. It is the responsibility of each individuals to aim towards taking sanitation and environmental cleanliness as a priority.
