Malaysia Singapore Japan (MSJ) Youth Dialogue

On 6 June 2021 Scouts Association of Malaysia Malacca Fort Branch had held a virtual youth dialogue co-organised with Singapore Scout Association North Area and Scout Association of Japan Tokyo Council. This dialogue was held on the Zoom platform and it is about 70 rovers scout participated. All the scouts must suit up in the full uniform to show love and respect to the scout event. The dialogue aims to exchange some scout knowledge and built a bonding between the three countries. All the participants must join the zoom meeting by 9.00 am (GMT+8) sharp with the link provided and it is about 2.00 pm (GMT+8) end. As the host of the dialogue, I felt the honour that successfully invited two overseas scouts to join the dialogue.

As the host of the event, I had planned and discussed with my committee's member about the flow of the dialogue. All the meetings and discussion was done in virtual meet due to the pandemic of Covid-19. We had prepared a series of interesting activities for this dialogue. I would like to thanks my most respectfully Malacca Fort District Commissioner - Ir. Lim Keng Boon by giving me trust, support and a great opportunity to organise the virtual dialogue.

Once all the participants join the Zoom meeting, the dialogue will start with the welcome speech by Malacca Fort District Commissioner - Ir. Lim Keng Boon. The dialogue followed with the speech by Singapore Scout Association North Area Commissioner - Ang Wee Jin and Scout Association of Japan Tokyo Council Trainer - Joseph. After that, all the participants will break out into a group with 10 members. All the participants will join the breakout rooms respectively to having ice-breaking sessions to know each other. Then, all the group will be given a topic to discuss, explain and suggest some idea. All the discussion must be related to scouting. They are giving one hour to discuss and prepare the slide for presentations. As the host, I will be joined and spot checks all the breakout rooms to make sure they have interaction because all the group will be mixed with three different country scout. After one hour, all the participants are required to join back the main room for presentations. The leader for each country will be the examiner for the sessions. The highest mark will be the winner for the sessions. I felt that very awesome that the idea suggests by them were very unique and creative.

Next, will be the funniest activities that are virtual campfire sessions. There are some obstacles for the participants to start the campfire. They need to play some games and quizzes to accumulate the marks to beat the obstacles. This session will be carried on in the break out rooms. The First will be the Tetris Battle game. Participants need to score as higher as they can and only one winner for each group. Next will be the draw and guest session. One of the group members will choose a word and start to draw. The others group member need to guest and type out the word. Only one group will win this game. Then will be the quizzes sessions. Each representative from each group will join. All the questions are about the knowledge of the scout. The most accurate and most marks will consider as the winner of the quizzes. After the participants accumulated the minimum require marks, they will be joining the virtual campfire. They required to open the mic and sing along with the campfire song. It such a unique and memorable campfire that I had before.

After the campfire sessions are done, it will be the ending ceremony. Firstly will be the closing speech by the three leaders of the representative countries. Then will be the winner announcement. Lastly will be photo-taking sessions along with singing the Malaysia Scout Song -“Sayorana” as the ending ceremony song.

As the host of the dialogue, I felt that very thankful to god because the dialogue goes smoothly and with a happy ending. It is such a great dialogue because we can learn how others country manages their scout activities during the pandemic. Besides that, we can know the culture of scouting in a different country and how they implement the scouting knowledge to their member. I think that I will organize such dialogue again and again to increase my knowledge. I hope that the pandemic can overcome as soon as possible and pray that everyone is safe and healthy. Lastly, scouting can make a better person, let us start the journey of scouting. I Love Scouting!
