Madiun Literacy Ranger

This project was inspired by the limited access many children in Madiun Regency have to quality reading materials. Beyond providing books, the project also aims to support teachers with engaging literacy approaches, so children can experience reading and learning in a more joyful and meaningful way.

This project was implemented through collaboration, based on the belief that education is a collective effort. Malira worked with the Madiun Regency Education Office, Kwartir Cabang Gerakan Pramuka Kabupaten Madiun (Indonesia Scout Movement-Madiun Branch), school principals and teachers, and the local literacy community Madiun Raya Read Aloud. Youth played a central role as volunteers, actively supporting program implementation.

This project showed that access to quality books must be paired with engaging and joyful learning experiences to effectively support children’s literacy. It reinforced the importance of empowering teachers with practical literacy approaches to sustain long-term impact. The project also highlighted that education is most effective when driven through collective action involving schools, communities, government, and youth volunteers.
