Litterless Campaign Camps Bay Beach

Camps Bay beach is situated in a beautiful part of the city. It is visited by many tourists and locals throughout the year. The surrounding area has sea wildlife and birds. Many forms of litter accumulate in and around Camps Bay beach. The PlasticNotFantastic campaign last year highlighted to effects of litter, especially plastic, on the sea life and birds.
Scout cubs met at Camps Bay beach on Thursday 16 March armed with gloves and black bags. Cubs went in amongst the rocks and boulder to collect litter. The beach was also cleared of litter Cubs then enjoyed a game of beach Volleyball on a litter free beach.
Thousands of people visit Camps Bay beach annual. It is difficult to estimate how many people benefited from litter collection. We feel that the environment benefited more than the people. Sadly, the litter we collected will be replaced in a few days with more litter washed out of the sea.
Litter less, pick up litter when you see it. Use less plastic. Recycle so it doesn't end up in the ocean. Everyone enjoys the beach more with no litter.
