Litter-Free Ambassador & Singapore International Jamboree 2015, VIA

Singapore celebrated its 50th National Day in 2015. This golden jubilee celebration also known as SG50 is a major national endeavour. A whole series of activities will be organized in 2015 to commemorate 50 years of nation-building. The celebratory activities will allow all Singaporeans to come together to celebrate our achievements as a nation and look back on our journey thus far. As part of SSA’s celebrations, others were cordially invited to send Scouts and Leaders to join us in our SG50 International Jamboree 2015 to be held from 17 - 22 November 2015. During this Event, I was able to lead a group of international scouts and locals to embark on a Values in Action (VIA) Campaign that involved 14 participants engaged in speaking to members of the public to share the importance of keeping the environment clean. The participants and I also had the opportunity to work together with the public service officers from the Public Hygiene Council (PHC) to pick up litters and do our duty to upkeep our common space to its cleanest. On top of this event, the Litter-Free Ambassador Campaign continued to the following year 2016 during the Chingay Night Festival at Bishan Ang Mo Kio Park, where I was deployed as a Rover Scout to bring along the younger scouts to pick up Litters and display to the member of public the demonstration of how we can all care for our environment. There were plenty of other green initiatives that were ongoing, such as the Recycling Projects, 3Rs (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) Sharing and many more. I am glad to have been exposed to more of such initiatives and got plenty of opportunity to find out more from their ambassadors. Overall, the Litter-Free Ambassadors were given a pin as a form of recognition to the scouts who serve and abide by their scouting principles towards being a discipline and considerate individuals and pledged themselves to continue such pro-social behaviour.
