Let's spread the gift of knowledge

As we all know, appropriate cultivation is necessary before we can reap a good harvest. Thus, learning and imparting our knowledge to others enables us to build a better society for the future. I do believe this was a great opportunity for us, the 17th Colombo St. Andrew’s Netherlee scouts, to allow a larger pool of students to acquire the gift of knowledge. With that, I decided to establish a children's library for Sri Devamitta Dhamma School at Sri Sudharmaramaya Temple, as my project.
Information about the project was posted on social media and sponsorship letters were sent to organizations, to find sponsors and receive more funding. Eventually, over a thousand books were collected, and financial contributions were also received to cover all the requirements needed. The library was equipped with 2 fans, 3 tables, 21 chairs, 5 book shelves, a desktop computer system, a printer, a name board and over a thousand books were labeled, categorized and entered into the library log.
As it is once said “A candle losses nothing by lighting another candle”, I truly believe that with the impact of this project, the students at the Sri Devamitta Dhamma School now have access to a library to nourish themselves for a better future. Additionally, the plans have been extended to permit individuals from outside to gain a membership and visit the library to obtain the knowledge they wish for.
Being able to complete this project successfully, I learnt that, together we can achieve more than even what we desire. Completing the Messengers Of Peace Badge under the guidance of Colombo District MOP Badge Examiner Mr. Nazeef Farook.
