Lencana Jayadiri - Nationhood Education
Covid-19 pandemic and movement restricted orders greatly affected scout's morale since no face-to-face meeting and not many badges they can earn with just online meeting. During school holiday, I took the opportunity to educate them to understand how this country had been governed and how this system can make them be a good citizen and re-contribute back to community.
This online camp focus on government system, parliament functions, national and state emblem, states flags, Kuala Lumpur parliament areas and the MPs, government agencies function and logbook. They had 7 days to complete each task. They had 2 webinars, with National Anti-Drug Agency to understand their roles and responsible as government agency and with scout instructor on how to prepare a good report. They had been applied with soft skill on how to conduct meeting and record minutes.
From 23 participants, only 16 of them able to finish all the tasks given and had been awarded Lencana Jayadiri, the highest badge for nationhood education. Not only their morale had been boosted but their junior scouts were excited to have a similar achievement. Base on their Leader's feedback, this camp help restore back their morale to continue scouting.
I learned that with necessary guidance and monitoring, scouts able to complete all the task by themselves, comply what BP said regarding give the boys real responsibility. Each badge has its own objective but the badge also have its own explicitly objective to develop soft skill. This program will be more interesting if can be done face-to-face such as visiting relevant places and interacting with relevant peoples.
