Kincaid Elementary School - Eagle Scout Project

Kincaid Elementary School - Eagle Scout Project

Jacob wanted to provide service to Kincaid Elementary School that would be useful and educational while also providing a memorial for his teacher who passed away while he was in the 6th grade at Kincaid Elementary School. Working with the school principal and the Anchorage School District, he was able to come to an agreement to build 18 vegetable grow boxes and 9 benches placed within the school apple orchard. Each elementary school class was assigned its own grow box for the students to plant, grow, and nurture plants of their choice. The benches serve as a place for reflection and journal writing in a peaceful setting. The project was well received by all the teachers and came to the attention of the U.S. National Education Association who made a short video of the project demonstrating Scouting and school collaboration that benefits the community.
