JamYin - celebrating the Year of the Youth
The Meghalaya Bharat Scouts & Guides celebrated the Meghalaya Year of the Youth, by organising a 3 days camp JamYin 2012 (Jamboree cum Youth Integration Camp), with the theme ‘Youth We Are, Change We Want, Build We Can’ at its State Headquarters premises from 12th to 14th December 2012.
JamYin 2012 saw the convergence of 120 youth volunteers along with their Leaders from 5 Youth Organisations – National Service Schemes, Nehru Yuva Kendra, SOS Children’s Village, Youth Red Cross and the host and organising organisation the Bharat Scouts & Guides, who stayed during the Camp and 350 others who visited during Valedictory function.
The Camp was inaugurated by Sh. J.D. Sangma, MCS – Director of School Education & Literacy, who stressed the need to properly channelize the current youth population towards social and developmental initiatives, which the country is lucky to have in good numbers.
During the short 3 days, the Camp was loaded with action packed programmes that are specially designed to suit the needs of these young people. The highlights are Friendship and Integration Game, Panel Talk on Youth Activism, Problems the present Youth are facing, Youth Volunteerism and Youth as a force of change, all reflecting on the scenario ‘Youth of Today’, which was then carried over through Group Work in the Situation Analysis. Dr. Pakha Tesia, MD, also delivered a talk on Drugs and Substance Abuse and interacted with the participants who asked various questions on the topic.
Other activities, include the Graffiti Competition, Crazy 10, Extempore Speech, an All Faith Prayer Meeting and an evening Campfire along with games and a slideshow ‘Daily Watch’ which mirrored the daily activities.
