INTERNATIONAL DAY OF SIGN LANGUAGES

The International Day of Sign Languages is an unique opportunity to support and protect the linguistic identity and cultural diversity of all deaf people and other sign language users. Being part of Special Education and Inclusive scouting, I took part in this celebration which was organized by my school; Lautoka School for Special Education.
This celebration was done virtually where different scouting and non-scouting groups joined. It focused on respecting and including people with disabilities mainly peopel with hearing impairment.
Parents, teachers, governmental and non-governmental organizations joined the online celebration whereby it created an awareness on people living with hearing impairment.
I learnt some very important things from this project. It made me reflect the society we are all living in. We as humans should treat each other with love, dignity and respect. There is still a misconception on people with hearing impairments and other disabilities. More involvement of non-scouts could have made this celebration more interesting. This would have helped the organization get people's views and ideas.
