International Day of Peace: Time to Enlighten Our Communities!
Cibubur Camp Field Jakarta was full of joy and had a strong atmosphere of peace in 21-22 September 2013. 510 young scouts from different places and background were gathered in an event named Best of the Best (BoB) Scouting Competition 2013. This competition is organized by Dhanapala Scouts Group, a very active and progressive Scout Group in Jakarta, every 2 years. This year is Dhanapala’s 25th anniversary. Thus, they named the event as BoB Silver Jubilee.
The BoB Scouting Competition put Messengers of Peace as the main value of the event. Besides many competitions held for young Scouts, a “BoB Scout Peace Forum” for Young Scout Patrol Leaders and “Dhanapala Peace Night” were also established there. These programs were also held to commemorate the International Day of Peace in September 21st.
The Peace Forum was inviting all Young Scouts Patrol Leaders to discuss how they can be a Messengers of Peace in 5 important aspects, which are education (school), environment, family, culture, and health. They discussed challenges and problems in their local communities and tried to figure out why that challenges and problems happened, and then start to plan their real action to help their communities. A team consists of participant representatives from different regions are created to finalize their discussion results to be a resolution.
… “We know that we have only limited energy. But we believe, by the assistance and supports from our Group Leaders and all brothers and sisters in where we are growing, we will be able to consistently improve ourselves. We are Messengers of Peace. Wherever we are growing, let people around us can feel the beauty of life in peace and understand the importance of doing real-actions, no matter how small it is. It is not about how much we can do right now, but our heart! We are here, for the peace of Indonesia and the world” …
A part of BoB Scouting Cempetition 2013 resolution above was read by Andina Citra (representatives of Banten Province), Yudha Saputra (Representatives of West Java), Bella Ariska (Representatives of Lampung Province), and Rizki Aldiansyah (Representatives of Jakarta Province) in front of 510 Young Scouts on Dhanapala Peace Night.
25 Peace Lamps (Chinese sky lanterns) were released at the Dhanapala Peace Night as a sign of Dhanapala Scouts Group’s journey in Scouting Movement. Those lamps also become a commitment symbol of the young Scouts there to enlighten their communities.
The Dhanapala Peace Night was closed with a really cheerful dance with Indonesian Messengers of Peace theme song. Everybody was happy and enjoy.
‘My heart is really shaken, tonight. I saw the great spirits of those Young Scouts as the hope for Indonesia’s and the world’s better condition. It is obviously because they are Messengers of Peace’ said Harris Nizam, a young filmmaker who is chosen as Indonesia’s Messengers of Peace Ambassador. ‘It is not only the celebration of Dhanapala Scouts Group; it is the celebration of having more young people with good hearts and great spirits as Messengers of Peace!’ added Fuad Zaen, the Dhanapala Scout Group Leader.
