Infrastructure development for a rural school

Project was done by Senior Scout Sarith Fernando from 16th Colombo Scout Group. I would like to express his idea which inspired him to do the project.

It was brought to my attention that the Kilinochchi Sivanagar School required a new water line to certain areas of the school. The school was severely damaged during the 30-year civil war in Sri Lanka and was considered ‘no man’s land’. Many damages to the school sustained during the war which ended in 2009 were also repaired through this project To support underprivilege School children a clean water to drink, improve sanitation by building toilets and a good environment for learning.

1. Install an overhead water storage system and connect water lines to essential areas of the school premises to ensure every kid is having clean water to drink 2.Repairing of the School Bell Tower 3.Repairing Damages in the School Toilets to ensure sanitation of every school children 4.Conducting an MOP ‘Zero Waste’ Programme for the surrounding community to aware them about proper waste management. 5.Repainting of Classroom & Black Boards to ensure good leaning environment.
330 School children were benefited from the project. At the end of the project 1) they have a properly installed tap line which ensure clean drinking water facility to every child 2. They have properly arranged toilets which ensure their hygiene and sanitation 3. Repaired class rooms which ensure a healthy environment for student leaning and teaching activities 4. Community around the school were benefited by awareness about proper waste disposal "zero waste" project
Although we have planned to increase the facilities of the school to improve their quality of education, we could have think of their improvement of socio economic backgrounds, which may be our next target. So we learnt that project should be expanded to the community around the school which include their parents and families. this will be planned to expand their living standards. For that support from government agencies will be obtained.
