INCREASING SOCIAL IMPACT FOR GROWTH - PEACE IS PATH
Scouts Association of Zimbabwe has embarked on peace project which started on the 15th day of January. The project, PEACE IS PATH aims at promoting the MoP network by building the capacity of young people to take actions within their communities and enhance social impact of Scouting. This goal shall be reached through a collective participation involving other external organisation who share the same interests with the project mission. So far, partnerships with UNICEF, UN-Zimbabwe, Younglife Org, National Museums and monuments of Zimbabwe and Forestry Commission have been made. A set of activities have been devised in order to reach the main goal, having the first prescribed activity in the month of February where key people from scouting and the community will get the training of MoP which shall see Zimbabwe's MoP agents database expanding by 300%. The project will run for 6 months with the following activities:
1. MoP Workshop
2. Training in Dialogue
3. Green Scout, 2000 tree planting
4. 100km Peace Walk
5. Community Service, Reaching out to people living in the marginal community of Domboshava
PEACE IS PATH is set to reach out to the communities with the word of peace through dialogue as a path and not as an arrival point. As preparatory and to utilise the rainy season, the department of environment in the project team has already started gathering tree seedlings for the first 2000 tree nursery setup.
Rover scouts shall be empowered during the course of project to influence change in their respective communities which will also help in the growth of scouting.
By the end of this project we anticipate that we would have reached to 4000 community people of Mashonaland east having 500 registered on scout.org and 2000 new scouts would have joined in the movement.
