Increase Reading Interest in Rural Area
This social project was designed by Universitas Indonesia Scout Movement (Pramuka UI). This project aims to increase the reading interest of primary school students in rural areas of Indonesia. Based on a UNICEF study in 2022, post-COVID-19 pandemic, the decline in student abilities is more worrying among children in vulnerable situations, including children from low-income households, rural areas, and children with disabilities. This is the background of why this project was carried out.
SDN Ramea 2 (State Elementary School Ramea 2) is the target location for this project. This project collaborates with the Universitas Indonesia, Pandeglang government, Scouts, and SDN Ramea 2. The activities consist of the implementation of the read-aloud method and building a reading corner in each class. The team also gave a new collection of books obtained from book donations.
This project is expected to achieve the global goals of the fourth point, such as ensuring inclusive quality education, equity, and increasing lifelong learning opportunities for all. This project has reached 100 beneficiaries through the empowerment of local youth and elementary school students in the target locations.
Through the introduction of literacy-based learning methods to teachers and parents, it is hoped that this will have a sustainable impact. The reading corners that have been built in each class are also expected to be a media for students to be able to access book collections easily.
