Have you ever thought how much plastic is used by you in your daily life? Take look of things around you! Yes I know that most of the things that we use are made up of plastic or a form of it. Plastic has ruled our lives., yes though it make our lives a little easier but is really a dangerous threat that one could have. Plastic not only replaced the ancient way of everything but also has ruined the environment. Knowing how harmful the plastic is, I decided to explore some of our everyday items that are used in mostly every home. It's not shocking that I found many things that are made up of plastics. Plastics always look attractive are very affordable in price, maybe that's the reason why there are so much use of plastic. I Explored to find out how much time different plastics taku to actually decompose in our environment and it's quiet shocking to know the results. * plastic bottles: 450 years * plastic cutlery: 100-1000 years * Tetra packs : 5 years * Nylon ropes : 20-200 years * plastic bags : 10-20 years * plastic pens : 1000 years * Batteries : 100 years * Tin cans : 50 years * Tooth brush : 400 years * styro foam : 500 years * Balloons : Never * Diapers : 400 years I also found some other materials and explored their age of decomposing. * Banana peel: 2-3 weeks * Rubber boots : 50-80 years * Cardboards : 2 months * Newspaper: 6 weeks * Glass bottle : 1 million years Though it seems that plastic can be filled into the land but the real fact is the plastic cannot completely decompose resulting in plastic pollution. So from now, I and my family have took the pledge to give up some of the single use plastics like plastic bags , toothbrushes, balloons, styro foams, plastic bottles, and plastic cutlery and instead of these we will use cloth bags, wooden toothbrushes, steel or silver cutlery and plates, and Cooper water bottles and we also pledges not to use balloons or foam at any cost. #sankalp #stayathome #fightcovid19 #wwfindia #bsgindia #saynotoplastic #pptchallenges #sankalpbyscoutguide #plasticchallenge #bsgppt
