Horse Creek Lake Brush Clearing

Horse Creek Lake Brush Clearing

Crew F811 (Indiana and Kentucky) from the 2013 BSA National Jamboree worked with the West Virginia Division of Natural Resources and the Army Corps of Engineers to perfrom new trail construction and brush clearing around Horse Creek Lake in southern West Virginia.  The lake had severely limited access and was therefore used by very few residents.  Our objective was to selectively clear brush around about half of the lake to create more access for fishing.  An open space was also created as a picnic area.  A new trail of about 200 m was constructed to connect the picnic area to the entry point of Horse Creek into the lake.  Trash was removed from all cleared areas and a portion of the creek.  Now better lake access is available for all residents of the area, especially the elderly, and will encourage family outings.
