Hilton Litter Less campaign

We learned about the Litter Less campaign and wanted to help clean up our community. A new school has moved in to the area near our local wetland, and we know that schools produce a lot of rubbish so we wanted to ensure that the area was litter free.
Our Scout troop arranged to meet at the school. We split into teams. Each team was allocated a type of litter to collect. This helped us to ensure that the rubbish was sorted and easier to recycle or dispose of as needed. We walked the roads around the school and wetland and picked up litter as we went. We had gloves on and were very conscious of the traffic (although it is a quiet area, the school was closed) and did our best to be safe.
The school area now looks clean and tidy. Also the wetland is safer from pollution and the wildlife that lives there is safer too.
We learned that many people do not care about the environment and are not concerned about how they dispose of their rubbish. Perhaps bins can be placed outside the school to provide a means of litter disposal.
