Greater Eldorado Park Scouts clean up community

The township of Alexandra in Johannesburg is a thriving community, however they still face challenges, one of which is illegal dumping. The illegal dumping is both an environmental and health hazard. As Scouts we felt obligated to assist local community partners with their clean-up initiative.
The 1st and 2nd Greater Eldorado Park Scouts, under the leadership of Scouter Mandla Khumalo, took this 'clean-up' to the streets of Alex - alongside other Scouts and members of local organisations. As a collective, they walked the streets and picked up the litter until they arrived at their local park which is located next to a river. There they also saw the necessity of a clean environment and helped to clean up the park.
The Scouts learnt that taking care of their community is vital. Pollution contributes to climate change and is also a health hazard. This campaign raised awareness and our Scouts learnt a lot from it. They are eager to mirror this initiative in their own communities as well.
