GIFT A PAD WITH SCHOOL GIRLS IN KIRINYAGA, KENYA
Girls in Primary and High Schools are the vulnerable people in our communities that lack the knowledge that parents should engage them in enhancing the parent child relationship. Gift a pad spotted the need to give our talks to such girls whose parents might feel uncomfortable talking with on issues concerning menstrual hygiene especially single parents.
The project was implemented at Kirinyaga County during a walk themed "Feed a child". We were able to talk with an audience of both primary and high school girls with the assistance of teachers.
The project stood its ground at the community level showing them that menstrual hygiene isn't something to hide. We live in the 21st century and such talks should be normalized. We were able to impact 600 school girls out of this heading home with the right ways and methods of handling themselves during their periods.
We learnt that a lot of people at the community regard menstrual hygiene as something tabooic in nature. We will keep on campaigning against such idioms and let the period light shine.
