FOOD FOR LIFE PROJECT PHASE 2 (3)-KENYA

FOOD FOR LIFE PROJECT PHASE 2 (3)-KENYA

DURING THIS PERIOD, I HAVE GIVEN MY CROPS TIME  TO GROW AND WITHIN A WEEK THE KALES THAT I PLANTED AT THE BEGINNING WERE READY TO TRANSPLANT. THE RAINS STARTED ON THE 13TH AND IT BECAME DIFFICULT FOR ME TO TRANSPLANT ONTO THE TRNCH BEDS AND SO I OPTED FOR CEMENT SACKS. I FILLED THE SACKS WITH SOIL THAT I  HAD ,MIXED WITH SOME DRY  ANIMAL MANURE . PER SACK I COULD TRANSPLANT 5-6 SEEDLINGS DEPENDING ON THE SIZE OF THE SACK. IT TOOK ME UPTO 3 HOURS TO COMPLETE 15 SACKS AS THE TRANSPLANTING PROCESS WAS EASIER. I COULD PLUCK SLOWLY THE SEEDLINGS AND ENSURE IT COMES OUT WITH A LUMP OF SOIL TO REDUCE ROOT DAMAGE. IT WAS EASIER TO PLUCK IT OUT BECAUSE THE SOILS WERE WET.

AFTER THE TRANSPLANTING, I WATERED THE KALES AND LEFT THE FARM. WHEN THE RAIN SUBSIDES, I WILL MAKE LIQUID MANURE THAT WILL BE EAISER FOR PLANTING IN THE TRENCH BED, THE PROCEDURE OF MAKING THIS LIQUID MANURE WILL BE OUTLINED IN THE NEXT POST.
