Eradicating FGM from culture multi-practise
FGM is harmful to the lives and health of girls and women in the short and long-term. In short term a girl may experience pain, severe bleeding , acute urine retention, fractures or dislocations, infection and death. Long -term complication may include difficulties urination, urinary or pelvic infections , difficulties in menstration, fistula, painful intercourse, sexual dysfunction and problems in pregnancy and child birth. On Friday 21st I met my girls from the rescue centre who are undergoing through mentorship program from the FGM trauma and also involving them in scouting activities. During there mid term we came up with various activities and project that will be done not only in the rescue centre but also in there school, were will be involving other students in our activities. During our training session we focused on early pregnancies and reproductive health.
So what are we the scouts focusing on achieving on this course?
1.Creating collective community action against FGM where public declaration are used as mechanism of social change.
2. Psycho-social counseling.
3. Sexual health education prevention and treatment of reproductive tract infections ,engaging influential traditional and religious leaders to understand the consequences of the practise. Am happy scouting is reaching out and engaging the young onece to play a constrative role to the society.
