Empowering Senior Scouts: A Journey of Identity

I was inspired by observing many Senior Scouts aged 16-19 struggling with identity crises and heavy peer pressure in their daily lives. I wanted to create a safe space where they could explore their true selves and build self-confidence. By using the 'Identity Star' activity, I aim to foster empathy and help them recognize the beauty in diversity, eventually building a more compassionate and cohesive scouting community.
The project was executed in two main stages. First, we conducted a theory session at the Group HQ to introduce the concept of personal identity and self-recognition. In the second stage, we organized an outdoor trip to the History - Ethnic Culture Park, where the 'Identity Star' activity was facilitated using colored beads and markers. This hands-on experience allowed participants to visualize their social intersections, practice empathy, and discuss ways to build a more inclusive community.
Through this project, I learned how to effectively manage a dual-session program, from initial planning with the National Team to field execution. I realized that using creative tools like the 'Identity Star' is a powerful way to make abstract concepts like diversity and empathy tangible for youth. Most importantly, I learned that creating a safe space for open dialogue significantly helps Senior Scouts build confidence and navigate peer pressure more effectively.
