EMPOWERING MALAWI SCOUTS WITH SOAP MAKING SKILLS

Many scout groups in Malawi lack income-generating initiatives, limiting their scouting activities. Teaching practical skills like soap making can help scouts earn income, become self-sufficient, and support community development while promoting health and hygiene. This can empower scouts to sustain their activities and make a positive impact in their communities.
I assembled a project team comprising young people to help with planning. Together, we identified a suitable scout group to receive training in soap making skills. After selecting the group, we oriented them to the project and later brought in an expert to train the scouts. The project ultimately proved to be a success.
Throughout this project, I learned that empowering youth through practical skills like soap making can help them become more self-sufficient and generate income. I also saw the positive impact that initiatives like this can have on the community, such as providing affordable sanitation and hygiene products and promoting healthy habits.
